Frequently Asked Questions
Mission: Minesweeper Specific Questions
How much does Mission:Minesweeper cost?
In the U.S., it's only 99¢ on the App Store.
Go buy it, now.
How do I resize the game board?
When writing Mission: Minesweeper, I had to strike a balance between game responsiveness and pinch speed.
What this means is that resizing the screen requires quick contact with both fingers and the pinching must
begin quickly thereafter.
If you find this quick maneuver difficult, simply tap around on the game board until you lose the game then resize the screen before reseting.

Why can't I turn on vibration on the iPod Touch?
Only the iPhone supports vibration so the iPod Touch cannot set this switch into the "on" position.
Crashes, Performance & Memory Related Issues
What should I do if I can consistently recreate a crash?
Please send me your crash logs, as soon as possible, so that I can improve the performance of the app.
However, if the the app is crashing on startup, please see the following question first.
To find your crash reports, please see the, "How do I retrieve the crash logs?", question in the "Gathering Diagnostic Information" section below.

What should I do if the app crashes at startup?
All AppsUtopia apps are tested thoroughly before they are released and we would never release an app
that crashes on startup. However, the iPhone is a dynamic device which has lots of different bits of
software running on it so problems that cause an app to fail on launch sometimes develop. Sadly,
these problems are completely out of our control but with each release of the iPhone operating system,
the situation improves.
If you're experiencing a crash on startup try the following:
Reboot the Device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button (on top) for a few seconds then slide the red slider. Turn it back on by holding the same button until the Apple logo appears.
Delete and Reinstall the App
Press and hold on the application icon on your iPhone's home screen until it begins to wiggle. A small black circle with an "x" on it should appear on the top-left corner of the icon. Tap on the "x" of the iPhone app that is giving you trouble to uninstall it. When thats done, sync your iPhone with iTunes which should result in the application being synced to your iPhone again.
Restore the Device
Connect your iPhone to your Mac or PC and, in iTunes, click the Restore button under the Summary tab. Please do remember restoring the phone will erase contacts, calendars, photos and other data on the phone, but will restore automatically backed-up information including text messages, notes, call history, contact favorites, sound settings, widget settings, etc.

Why do apps have random crashes?
If a crash cannot be reliably reproduced, it's usually because of a lack of memory. The iPhone and
iPod Touch devices have a very limited amount of memory and OS native apps can consume some of this
memory, too. You should always reboot your device after installing any app as the installation
routines may leave some of the memory unusable.
How can I free up memory?
Some of the native apps on the iPhone stay persistent in memory even after you close the app. As a
result, this memory is not available to any apps launched afterwards. To ensure that a native app
fully closes and releases its memory, you should press and hold the home button
until the app exits.
To free up even more memory, decrease the number of installed apps. The more apps on your home screen, the more memory is retained after an app is launched. Also, do not jailbreak your iPhone or iPod Touch as it increases memory usage and decreases stability.

Should I remove songs and movies to improve stability?
No. Songs, ringtones, podcasts, movies and other media are stored in the mass storage of your device
and not in the system memory which is very limited on the iPhone. As long as there is a small amount
of space available for apps to create any necessary storage files used by the app, freeing additional
space by deleting media will have no effect on an apps performance.
Is it a problem that my device is Jailbroken?
AppsUtopia does not recommend jailbreaking your iPhone or iPod touch as it allows many other processes
to persist in memory which adversely affects performance. It is not uncommon for a jailbroken iPhone to
have less than two-thirds the available memory of an identically configured but non-jailbroken iPhone.
All of the background processes, wallpapers, etc. will decrease the overall performance of your device
and may cause apps to fail.
Battery, Interrupt & Firmware Issues
Why do some apps drain batteries faster than others?
Games usually drain batteries faster due to the high level of CPU utilization for audio, graphics, logic
and physics. Games also often activate additional hardware such as embedded graphics chipsets that would
otherwise be unused and powered down. This contributes to the observation that games drain batteries much
faster than say, the Notepad application. AppsUtopia works hard to ensure that our apps do not adversely
affect battery performance while still providing the best user experience possible.
How can I extend my battery life?
Fortunately, there are a lot of things that users can do to extend battery life. For iPhone users, turning
off 3G (phone will go into Edge mode), will drastically reduce battery drain. If you can, turn off
networking altogether (iPhone users can go into Airplane Mode while iPod users can turn off WIFI.) In
general, turning on WIFI drains more battery than 3G or Edge. Turning off bluetooth when an app doesn't
need it will help as well.
Do your apps save data when I press the home button?
Yes. Our apps will always save your progress.
Why didn't it save when I replied to an SMS message?
This is a known bug in the iPhone firmware 2.2.1 and earlier. It will probably be fixed with new
firmware updates from Apple.
Why do sounds stop working after I reject a call?
This is a known issue with the iPhone OS. The only solution available is not really viable as it will
destabilized the game. The best solution is to either pick up the call or restart the app.
Why don't the sounds stop when I flip the silent switch?
This is a known issue with iPhone firmwares preceding 2.2.1. In 2.2.1, this issue no longer exists.
Why won't the app work when I use beta firmware?
Beta firmware is subject to change before it is finalized for public deployment. Hence, we can never
fully guarantee that our apps will run flawlessly on any beta firmware.
